The regulatory authority of North American Power Reliability Corporation also warned that the traditional power supply should not be phased out too soon, otherwise it will face the risk of serious shortage, which may lead to more frequent power outages in extreme weather.
Public utility companies are facing increasing pressure from the US government and some investors to phase out fossil fuels, with the goal of achieving 100% carbon-free power generation by 2035.
The United States Energy Information Administration recently predicted that by 2023, solar power generation will account for more than half of the power generation capacity of new utilities in the United States grid.
