ANSI: American National Standards Institute, founded in 1918, is organized by American Society for testing and materials (ASTM), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), American Society of mining and Metallurgical Engineers (asmme), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE), etc, The American Engineering Standards Committee (AESC) was jointly established, and three departments of the U.S. government (Commerce Department, Army Department and Navy Department) also participated in the preparation of the Committee.

In 1928, the American Engineering Standards Committee was reorganized into the American Standards Association (ASA), which is committed to the cause of international standardization and the standardization of consumer goods.

In August 1966, it was reorganized as the Standards Institute of the United States of America (USASI).
