Parkwind, 50 Hertz, and Bladt Industries have successfully installed the Arcadis Ost offshore substation (OSS).
The 2380-ton structure was installed by the Scaldis crane vessel Gulliver on its monopile foundation in the wind farm Arcadis Ost 1 located around 19 kilometres east of Rügen in Germany.
Developed in collaboration with 50 Hertz, the 30 meter high OSS in the center of the windfarm will collect the green power created by the 27 wind turbines, transform the power to a level of 220kV and export it onshore to the German 50Hertz grid connection point in Lubmin.
After the platform-supporting foundation, the so-called monopile, with a weight of around 2100 tons was erected on June 8, 2022, the final installation of the platform took place already today in the morning. In total, the offshore transformer platform together with its foundation weighs over 5,000 tons.
The OSS was designed, fabricated, and installed by the Danish contractor Bladt Industries.
The substation was pre-fabricated in Poland and final assembly and equipment took place at Bladt Industries in Aalborg, Denmark from mid-2021. Semco Maritime provided design, installation and commissioning of the high, medium and low voltage equipment.
Stefan Kapferer, CEO 50Hertz added: “I congratulate everyone involved on the successful installation of the Arcadis Ost platform in the Baltic Sea! We have thus reached an important milestone on the way to commissioning a great European joint project. As soon as our grid connection system Ostwind 2 goes into operation, more than half a million households will be able to be supplied with electricity from renewable offshore wind energy. This will increase our energy sovereignty, make us less dependent on fossil fuels and help us achieve our climate targets. We can’t do this alone, but in good cooperation. We will steadily expand cooperation with our European partners in the coming years.”
The Arcadis Ost 1 wind farm is located in the German territorial waters of the Baltic Sea, northeast of the island of Rügen, and generates enough green energy to power the equivalent of up to 290,000 households. Developed by Parkwind, it is the company’s first wind farm outside of Belgian waters, marking the start of its international expansion.
